The Last 6000 Campaign
is an effort to find and document Seattle's majestic trees. The campaign’s name comes from the 2016 Seattle Tree Canopy Cover report, which noted that there were only 6,338 trees with a trunk diameter of 30 inches and greater (referred to in our campaign as ‘majestic trees’) remaining in the city.
In Seattle, our majestic trees connect us to history, inspire us, and call on us to honor our duty as stewards of this place. Very few cities in the world have trees like ours.
Our campaign supports advocacy for preserving as many of Seattle's remaining majestic trees as possible. We believe meeting our city's need for housing while protecting these essential trees is not only possible but crucial for the health of our communities and residents. We believe housing development and trees needn’t be mutually exclusive.
We thank you for your interest and support!
